We don't routinely pre-stain or paint our products for the reasons stated below.
One concern is that we cannot ensure that any color paint or stain that
we would apply to your new rack would in fact, match your decor.
Obviously it would not be possible
to match up a particular color unless we were at your location.
Most wood species react differently when a stain or paint is applied and even
color swatches from manufactures can not ensure that
a particular color selection will achieve the desired end results.
Another and very important consideration is that your unit
would need to be sealed with a non-toxic sealer after staining.
This is because most stains and paints are combustible and highly toxic and if
you do not seal your glass rack after staining,
(with a non-toxic finish), you run the chance
of serious health risks to anyone exposed to the toxins with-in sealers and paints
used to finish any particular piece.
This holds especially true in areas were food and drink
storage and preparation occur.
Over the years we have found that the majority of our customers
desire an unfinished rack so they can be sure to get the desired color they envisioned.
Most have stated that they applied a finish themselves or leave their unit's natural.
Applying a stain is not difficult for the end user
and usually only takes a few minutes to apply.
For example a "Tavern Style Hanging Wine Glass Rack",
would take only an ounce or two of stain and
a clean, lint-free cloth (like an old T-shirt), to do the job.
One can easily wipe on a stain, then
wipe off the excess. However there are some tips and tricks
as well as safety precautions that one should consider before staining.
One such tip is to try a stain in a small inconspicuous place first.
This allows one to be able to match up a stain with an existing decor
(i.e. cabinets, countertops, etc...) and get the desired end result they are looking for.
WARNING: Always read label warnings and instructions before starting any wood finishing project. The solvents in most stains and paints are combustible and highly toxic. Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse health effects, especially in children or pregnant women. Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances require the use of proper protective equipment such as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved) and proper containment and cleanup.
For more information call the National Lead Information Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in US) or contact your local health authority.
When applying any finish ALWAYS be sure you have adequate ventilation and avoid
all ignition sources during application and drying.
